Sains Estetika Teknologi (SET) (Technology Esthetics and Science) Overview
Established 1987, in the beginning started in a group of audiovisual creators of IKJ (Institut Kesenian Jakarta, The Jakarta Arts Institute, Garin Nugroho, Arturo GP, and friends) which aspired to develop the freedom of expressing and the recreation of pluralism, and the dawn of the new film generation, in the midst of cinematography crisis symptom, and also the recreation procedure which is not manifesting the culture of democration.
In it’s progressing period, SET is in accordance with virtual century’s expansion that demands a new role of audiovisual, and fresh relationship of society, technology, media, culture and corporate social liability, in 1999, has expanded its public role in becoming a Foundation. Starting in its role as the executive producer for 1999 General Election’s works.
In its growth, SET has encourage the augmentation of MEDIA DEMOCRATIZATION through 5 programs :
- Citizenship Education Program
- Audiovisual Multicultural Program in differrent perspective, concerning religion, tribe, race and genre
- Broadcasting Democratization Development by public televison
- Audiovisual Production Program
- Training Program
The most recent role of SET in 2004 General Election is as the coordinator of Media Coalition for Liberate and Adequate General Election. This coalition consists of 12 civil society organizations expanded in 6 regions with various field of work, from education, socialization to advocating.
